Thesis planning
The Thesis Planning UC comprises a total of 20 ECTS and is a fundamental requirement to apply for admission to the preparation of Thesis. This course, which is of the tutor responsibility, includes a written report, with presentation and public discussion.
The written report will identify, define and characterize the problem to be addressed in the thesis, the respective state of the art and research planning.
This Thesis Planning document must be delivered at the end of the first year of attendance of a PhD at a date to be established in the Academic Calendar, typically at the end of July, for students admitted to the first and second phases of application, and during the month of February for students admitted to the third stage of application. The presentation and public discussion will take place, respectively, in September and subsequent March.
For the presentation and public discussion will be appointed a jury, chaired by the director of PDEM (or his representative) that includes the supervisor, an internal examiner and an external examiner.
The final classification of Thesis Planning UC is the responsibility of the jury, which will consider the written report, the respective presentation and discussion, as well as the results of other activities included in this UC.
The Thesis Planning application form is required at the Pedagogical Council.
Admission to Thesis
All students should at the end of the first year of enrollment in PDEM and after successfully completing a minimum of 35 ECTS of the PhD degree (in which they must include the UC Thesis Planning), submit an application for admission to the thesis, using the form available on the website of the School of Engineering in the Documents section, which should be delivered to the director of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering, then printed and signed by everyone involved.
It will be expected that these applications are delivered on time (maximum) 1 month after the completion of the first year of registration.
Only after submission and approval by the Scientific Council of the School of Engineering (CCEEUM) is that the respective work plan and guidance are officially defined and therefore only from that time is that the student is considered associated with the Doctoral Program and respective center R & D.
Thesis Registration
The Registration theme and thesis plan is a legal requirement for any PhD student Portuguese or Portuguese institution.
In PDEM after the application for admission to the thesis be accepted by the Scientific Council of the University of Minho Engineering (CCEEUM), the student has 90 days, counted from the respective notification, to proceed with the Thesis Registration with the Academic Division.
